When Manufacture Alabama approached me with this project, it felt like the universe aligned perfectly. As someone with a home office decked out in vintage NASA JPL graphic artwork, working on a website for aerospace organizations was a dream come true.
The Mission
The Alabama Aerospace & Defense Council needed a digital platform that could showcase their critical work. This isn’t just about rockets and space—it’s about driving economic growth and supporting Alabama’s defense and manufacturing ecosystem.
Navigating Design Challenges
Our primary goal was to create a website that was both visually striking and true to the council’s brand. We had to walk a fine line:
- Stay consistent with the existing color palette
- Highlight council members’ achievements
- Capture the broad spectrum of aerospace and defense (think naval, air, and yes, space exploration)
Technical Creativity Meets Performance
Video was going to be our hero—but we knew the pitfalls. Many websites kill their performance by dumping massive video files onto their homepage. Not us. We:
- Used a Content Delivery Network (CDN)
- Compressed the video into custom MP4 and WebM formats
- Created a lightweight video hero that loads quickly and looks incredible
An aerospace website design embracing hard contrast colors that nod to naval and space themes. Animations, gradients, and orbital-inspired shapes help visitors glide through content sections.
